US economy growing at 3.5% this quarter

The US economy for the 2nd quarter (July - September) has grown by 3.5% which is a remarkable achievement in these tight times. The most important thing is that the these figures have exceeded the market expectations.

Obama has said that, "We've got a long way to go to fully restore our economy" which is a very humble statement. Japan, France, Germany had already come out of recession in the last quarter itself, though UK is still in recession.

US Economy in April - June : 0.9% growth
US Economy in July - Sept. : 3.5% growth

Very encouraging signs. But the job market in US hasn't improved though. This has created lots of confusions in the minds of market analysts. Hmmm... Hope things really improve much more.

India vs Singapore

Now let's see how India performs against Singapore.

vs

SINGAPORE -

It's a US $181bn economy. Pretty impressive for a country the size of Singapore (Hurray... It's more than that of Pakistan's)
Famous for education, tourism and multi-cultural activities, variety of food
Per capita income of a whopping US $51,226 (Wow... More than US. Cool !!!)
Population - 4,987,600. (Because of the immigrant population)
Popular for F1 race too. (Night race)

Aim :
  • Has a vision of making it the world's number one tourist destination
  • To make Singapore a haven
Verdict :

Singapore might be economically too ahead of India but is too small and defense wise is no match for India. So, India wins when it comes to national security but people in Singapore are far more happier than those in India. So, mathematically, Singapore wins.

India vs Sri Lanka

Here, i will compare India with Sri Lanka. As we have seen points about India, we will see the stats of Sri Lanka alone here.

vs

SRI LANKA -

It is a US $39.6bn economy (decent for an island)
Per capita Income of US $1,972
Famous battles fought with LTTE and also for the killing of innocent Tamilians
Population - 20,238,791 (has reduced, thanks to LTTE)
Main source of income is Tourism & Development
Aim :

  • To drive out Tamilians from their nation or kill them
  • Recently, they have joined hands with other countries to work against India
Hmmm, and the winner is ... India (hurray...), but wait, not by a huge margin.

India vs Rest of the World

From now onwards, i will try to compare India with other countries in the world. For a better start, let's compare India with Pakistan.

vs

INDIA -

India is a US $1.2 tn economy (Is something wrong ???)
Famous for corruption, pollution, population
Per capita Income of (just) US $2,762
Population - 1,147,995,904. Thanks to Pakistan it's under control (by frequent Bomb Blasts)
Aim :
  • To become number one in corruption in the world
  • To sell India to countries like China, Pakistan etc. (It's actually a very long list...)

PAKISTAN -

Pakistan is a US $167 bn economy (Poor Pakistan)
Famous for terrorism, jihad, telling lies, blaming other nations and most importantly, famous for begging to US
Per capita Income of (a whopping) US $2,739 (Too much...)
Population - 172,800,048. Thanks to US that it's well under control (frequent bombing by Drones)
Aim :
  • To capture Kashmir from India and still not becoming satisfied
  • To setup more training camps for terrorists with latest technology
So, the winner of the match is .... Actually it's a TIE, as both countries are good at whatever they do. So, keep going...

Bye-Bye Flintoff

England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff to retire from Test cricket at the end of the Ashes series against Australia of persistent injury problems. However, the 31-year-old will continue to make himself available for one-day and Twenty20 fixtures, the ECB said.

"My body has told me it's time to stop. Since 2005 I've had two years when I've done nothing but rehab from one injury or another. It's been something I've been thinking about for a while and I think this last problem I've had with my knee has confirmed to me that the time is now right." Flintoff said.

Flintoff's participation in the second Test at Lord's, which starts on Thursday, remains in doubt after he suffered his latest injury in the first Test, when he bowled 35 overs. Flintoff made his England debut in 1998 and has played 76 Tests and 141 one-day internationals. He averages 31.69 in Tests and has taken 219 wickets. England will surely miss one of the best bowlers.

Sania Mirza's Engagement

It was a heart break for Sania Mirza's fans as she got engaged recently. Tennis sensation Sania Mirza looked stunning in a specially-created green and gold outfit as she got engaged to childhood friend and family acquaintance Mohammed Sohrab Mirza at a private ceremony at the Taj Krishna hotel in Hyderabad on Friday night amid tight security. Media were not allowed to attend the function though. Sohrab, wearing a black Armani suit, was accompanied by his parents. He presented Sania a Rs 10 lakh 2-carat diamond ring at the ceremony !!!

Though the list of invitees included big names like Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh, the cricketers were not among those present. Mahesh Bhupathi, Sania's mentor and mixed doubles partner, Telugu film star Vishnuvardhan and his wife Veronica witnessed the ceremony. While Sohrab's family gifted Sania 11 outfits of different styles, designed by various designers, Sania's family presented six outfits and a diamond watch to their would-be son-in-law. What an engagement ???

What is Mesothelioma ?

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos. Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles, or they have been exposed to asbestos dust and fiber in other ways. In this disease, malignant develop in the cellsmesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body's internal organs. Approximately 2,000 to 3,000 new cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed in the United States each year.

Symptoms :
Symptoms of mesothelioma may not appear until 20 to 50 years after exposure to asbestos. Shortness of breath, cough, and pain in the chest due to an accumulation of fluid in the pleural space are often symptoms of pleural mesothelioma.

Doctors typically address the cancer in terms of stages, ranging from stage one to stage four. Unfortunately, once mesothelioma cancer has reached stage three or four, treatment options not only become more limited but less effective as well.

Roger vs Roddick

Today is the great Men's Finals between Roger Federer and Andy Roddick. Roger stormed his way into the finals battling against Tommy Haas, but Roddick struggled a bit against Murray. It's the third time Roger and Roddick are going to meet in the Wimbledon Finals, Roger won the previous two meetings though. Roger Would be looking to go one better than what Pete did, a tally of 14 grand slams. But Roddick stands in between Roger and the history.

Roddick is in terrific form with his big serves in his favor. He has been able to maintain a first serve percentage of around 70%. This could prove to be a tough task for Federer to return his serves. Time will only tell the answer. Hope Roger wins...

Yesterday, in the all Williams finals, Serena won the Women's title beating her sister Venus in direct sets.

Wimbledon -The slam of slams...

This year wimbledon finals will be the best of all i believe. With men's semi-finals between Haas-Federer and Murray-Roddick, one can expect the temperatures to go up. Bookies have put a Federer vs Murray final. Federer is the favorite to win but Murray is not to be underestimated. Let's wait and see as time will tell the answer. My favorite to win wimbledon is Roger Federer.

French Open Finals

French Open 2009 witnessed one of the most brilliant semi finals in mens singles yesterday with 2 marathons being played by the best tennis players. The first match between Gonzales (Chile) and Soderling (Sweden) went to a decisive 5th set. The first 2 sets wentto soderling and the next 2 went to Gonzales. The 5th set had all the drama when Gonzales led 3-0. Then bounced bak Mr. Soderling to take the 5th set 6-4 thereby booking a berth in his first ever French Open finals.

The second match was between the 6'6" tall Argentenian Del Potro and the Swiss maestro Roger Federer. This was the most brilliant semi finals in couple of years. This was also a dramatic 5-setter. Potro's service was lightning fast at around 210 kmph for which Roger had no answer. Some how he found his way back and leveled at 2 sets a piece. Then came the decisive set where Roger broke earlier to lead 3-1. Then Potro broke back again to level at 3-3. Roger broke again to win the match.

Sunday will determine if Roger would level Pete's record of 14 Grand Slams and most importantly the eluding French Open. But one thing is for sure. We are in for a great treat.

NOTE
Bjorn Borg has tipped Soderling to take the French Open this time. Can Roger prove him wrong ???

Prakash Varma, ad filmmaker, Nirvana Films, has directed the commercials, and reveals that the Zoozoos were a big challenge to create. The practical aspects of how they will move, talk, gesticulate and emote were very important. Essentially, costume design and artwork were crucial elements.

It took me three weeks of pre-production to understand how it will work," says Varma. There were two fabrics that were considered for the body suits, and one was rejected for it had too many wrinkles and was shiny. The wrinkles would have shown when the characters moved, thereby shattering the illusion of animation. "So we chose the more practical, thicker fabric," Varma explains.

The production team divided the outfit into two parts: the body and the head. The body part of the outfit was stuffed with foam in some places, while the head was attached separately. To make it look bigger than a human head, a harder material called Perspex was used, which in turn was stuffed with foam (with scope for ventilation).

If one wishes to understand the size of this head, here's a fact: a human head would typically reach up to the mouth level of this giant Zoozoo head. "We kept the hands and legs thin, which is why we cast women - and occasionally children - wearing the costumes," says Varma. The thin limbs, contrasted with big bellies and a bulbous head, all add to the illusion that these creatures are 'smaller' than humans. Sets were created to suit the size of the Zoozoos.

Cinematically, this 'size' was a trick : the creatures look smaller than they actually are on screen, to portray a different world of sorts. For this, the speed of shooting was altered: Nirvana shot it in a high-speed format to make them look the size that they do.

Furthermore, simple sets/backdrops were created and spray painted with neutral Greys - a colour of choice so that attention isn't diverted from the main characters. For a supposedly 'outdoor' shot, even the shadow of a Zoozoo was kept 'live' and not done in post production: it was painted in a darker shade of grey on the ground. An even lighting was maintained throughout.

The films were shot by Nirvana in Cape Town, South Africa, with the help of a local production house there, called Platypus. Incidentally, the same combination of people also worked on the 'Happy to Help' series last year. When asked whether Cape Town is fast becoming a tourist spot for Vodafone and Nirvana, Varma laughs, saying, "Oh no! It's just that we are very comfortable with the team there and know what sort of work to expect from them."

Nagpal adds here that the production cost had to be minimal for unveiling such a large number of commercials. "Otherwise, our production costs would exceed media spends," he quips.

Terrifying Terrorism

Even as i am writing, terrorism is continuing somewhere. One example recently is recent attack on the Sri Lankan cricketers. The Lahore policemen were mere spectators. 12 terrorists, all escaped with ease in 2 bikes. Hail Pakistan - the homeland to terrorists... Why can't pakistan put an end to terrorism ? Also it blamed India (lame excuse)

Jihad - the holy war is also said as a reason for terrorism. Why bring religion into this bull shit ? Beheading is another gory thing. How are they doing this ? Will this ever stop ? We all have thousands of questions in our mind. No answers. Only if pakistan is able to do something, will terrorism end. Rest in my next article.

Terrorism continues ...

Of late, the cease fire deal between Pakistan and the Taliban is a definite worry for India. Clean negotiations between a government and a terrorist organization is something that cannot be digested that easily. If we analyze the root cause of terrorism which India is facing, the reason could probably be because of the Kashmir issue.

What right does pakistan have to claim Kashmir. Already 50% of Kashmir is in the hands of pakistan which is the breading ground of terrorists. We can even say that the capital of terrorism is Muzaffarabad. My next article would discuss about the worst form of punishment by terrorists - 'Beheading', which they do in the name of 'Jihad'.

Terrorism, is it a religion ???

The fastest growing religion in the world is terrorism. None can deny this. Is terrorism confined to one particular religion ? Well we can say the muslims are the ones preaching terrorism. These might be strong words, but there's no other go. Ways to eradicate terrorism ? Eradicate people who involve themselves in these illegal activities. Doing wrong things in the name of Allah should definitely be condemned. Pakistan is the root cause of this epidemic which the world is facing off late.

To Be Continued ...

Australian Open 2009

Oh my god, what a final it was ? The australian open 2009 saw one of the greatest finals ever between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Roger chasing a record 14th Grand Slam victory and Nadal chasing his first ever victory in hard court. My favorite Roger lost though after an epic 5 set battle. Roger cried a lot while receiving the cup from Rod Laver.

In the end, Nadal won 7-5 3-6 7-6 3-6 6-2. Let's hope these two keep fighting to provide the people a visual treat and also hope Roger reaches the magic figure of 14 Grand Slams. Long live these two greats !!!

Obama - Can he ... ???

Barack Obama, the 44th American president took his oath on Jan 20th and gave a good speech in bringing about a revolution in USA by making US come out of the recession and also wiping out terrorism. But many have started questioning as to whether he can really do it ? Even if he can do it, when will he accomplish all these tasks ? Well, we have to wait and see. One good thing in his regime is that, he has ordered the shut down of the Guantanamo Bay...

One important thing is, he fumbled while taking his oath on 20th. So, he took oath again the next day in front of the Chief Justice of USA.

Hayden Calls it Quits !!!

Mathew Hayden, Australia's most successful opener for almost a decade finally quit today after his dismal performance for almost 6 months in the CB series, Border - Gavaskar series and the most recent series against South Africa in Australia. He was a devastating batsman in his early days and tormented all forms of bowling. He was feared to bowl at for many bowlers. To simply say, he was the worst nightmare for many bowlers.

Along with Justin Langer, he was a great opener in Tests and in one-dayers it was with Adam Gilchrist. He has an impressive average of 50.62 in tests and averages in mid 40's in one dayers.

He is my favorite batsman too and i miss him a lot. Love you Matt. You will always be my one of the favorite batsman.

USB Gas Stove ???

One of the most obnoxious things is when you finally decide to take a break from work to make a cup of coffee or tea. Then after you’ve brought back the steaming cup, you get wrapped up in work again and inevitably it gets cold. You don’t want to get back up to heat it, either because you’re busy or are just too lazy. Which is when a cup warmer comes in very handy. This isn’t the first cup warmer to be sold, but this one offers a retro design.

Now, the most funniest yet the most convenient invention is the USB Gas Stove Cup Warmer. It’s made to look like a gas stove and even has LED lights to make it seem like there is a flame. The warmer comes in either orange or blue and is of course, powered by USB and not gas. You can purchase it on Gadget4all for $15.
